The spirit of giving is strong at this time of year. During the holiday season, it is common to exercise our generosity when we can. Many feel pulled to donate money, food, and time as the winter sets in, and the nights get longer.
The Government of Canada is doing pre-budget consultations until February 19th. This is a great opportunity to speak up for a basic income guarantee, as well as other important issues like housing, pharmacare, childcare, and more! While the questionnaire does name many of these issues, unfortunately you won’t see a basic income guarantee specifically mentioned in the survey, so you’ll have to add it in yourself.
On July 26th, we invited members of the Peterborough community to enjoy a free vegetarian dinner and participate in a public conversation about the basic income guarantee. With approximately 50 people in attendance, the room was filled with passionate community members who are hungry for change. In this post, we recount some of the themes that emerged from last week’s discussion.
