Lakefield, ON. May 20, 2016 – Nourish Lakefield invites local residents to join us at Lakefield District Intermediate Secondary School (LDISS) at 12 noon on Thursday, June 2nd to celebrate the launch of  a new community garden in the Village.

“We are thrilled to see this initiative taking root in our community,” said horticulturalist and Nourish Lakefield committee member, Emma Murphy. “We look forward to the opportunities and benefits that this project will create in our community for the years to come.”

A working group of local community members, Nourish Lakefield was formed in 2015 with a vision to expand access to healthy food in the area. Thanks to the generous support of the Peterborough Master Gardeners, we will establish 10 new community garden plots at LDISS this spring, bringing us closer towards our goal.

The initiative has already garnered a growing list of community partners and supporters, including LDISS, the Lakefield Food Bank, the Lakefield Library, as well as many local businesses. In addition to plots for individual community members, volunteers will also maintain a donation bed to supply fresh produce to food bank patrons.

There’s still time to reserve a plot!

Featuring free, hands-on workshops and fun for the whole family, community members are encouraged to attend the ground-breaking event for an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the project ---- all while sampling some delicious treats prepared with local food.

For more information about the garden, including how you can get involved or reserve a plot, please call 705-743-3526 ext. 115 or email  growing@nourishproject.ca.
