Nourish goes to the movies

Reframe Film Festivel 2016 branding

For the past 4 years, Peterborough’s very own documentary film festival, Reframe, has helped bring new meaning to the phrase ‘food for thought.’ From food insecurity and poverty to farming sustainability and climate change,  the festival has consistently featured a rich linup of documentary films that touch on food issues.

This year, Nourish is delighted to sponsor four films at ReFrame. Our Seed Savers Collective, a diverse group of local growers who collaborate to grow and share seed, equipment, knowledge and resources to strengthen capacity and encourage abundance in our regional seed system, is also co-sponsoring two of these films.

On Friday January 29th at 4pm at Showplace, we will present three films. The first, I am a Seed Saver, is a short film by USC-Canada (one of the great funders that makes our Seed Savers Collective possible). It features prominent Canadian musicians celebrating the importance of growing and saving seeds. The second, Seeds of the Past, shows the power of seeds and gardens to transform spaces and connect people to cultures and homelands.

Finally, a third feature length film, entitled Plant This Movie, is also sponsored by Nourish. This film looks at shifting landscapes, the growing urban agriculture movement, and how we can all get involved in reclaiming green spaces by growing our own food and working together to grow a more sustainable future.

On Sunday January 31st at 12:00pm at Showplace,  we look forward to co-sponsoring This Changes Everything. Inspired by Naomi Klein's best selling book, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate, the film travels the world to explore the ways that diverse communities are confronting climate change.

Before the films, we welcome you to visit our table in the Showplace lobby to learn more about Nourish, urban agriculture, and seed saving. On Friday, we would love for you to join us at Whitepath Consulting (160 Charlotte St.) for a facilitated discussion on audience reactions to the films. We will also showcase local food initiatives in our community and explore the many ways you can get involved!

For now, we check out the trailers (where available) below, or visit the Reframe website for the complete festival schedule.
